Garden Clubs, Gardens & Gardeners

Ginny Power's garden

Virginia Power created this beautiful garden at her home in Riverview.

Beautification. Cultivation. Conservation. Preservation.  These were the watchwords of Chattanooga's garden clubs and societies.  The members who organized the first clubs worked to better their communities.  They established wildlife sanctuaries, preserved historic sites, planted municipal gardens, landscaped streets and schools, and brought flowers into hospitals, nursing homes, and orphanages.  In this exhibit created from the scrapbooks and yearbooks of the garden clubs, you will see some of Chattanooga's lovely gardens and their makers.
